About Bee Downtown:
Bee Downtown is a Forbes and INC Magazine 30 Under 30 startup based out of Raleigh/Durham, North Carolina with beehives and corporate hive programs in cities across the United States. At Bee Downtown we believe in the power of using sustainable beekeeping and urban agriculture to help reshape how people think and live within our environment. The Bee Downtown Corporate Hive Program installs and maintains beehives in cities and semi-urban environments to support the cultivation of healthy honeybee populations while simultaneously providing year-round employee engagement and kinetic programming to our partners and their employees. The second division of Bee Downtown is the BDT Leadership Institute, a leader development institute for corporations and their employees based in Biomimicry, created to teach about effective leadership through the mindset of a hive.
Job Description:
BDT is looking for an experienced accounting/finance professional to join its team 10-15 hours per week. The ideal candidate will have strong accounting skills, but a desire to be a part of broader functional and strategic activity and decisions in operations, procurement, human resources, and growth. Responsibilities includes the following:
Accounting/compliance - Invoicing customers and customer setup, receiving payments, paying vendors, sales tax filings, state and local registrations and licensing, financial statement preparation and review, bank and credit card reconciliations
Procurement - Identifying high spend areas and developing best sourcing strategies, capital plan and budgeting
HR - Annual health benefits selection, SIMPLE IRA enrollment, new employee benefits enrollment with 3rd party provider, employee record keeping, timesheet review
Growth - Budgeting and forecasting for new locations and customers
Successful candidates will have the following:
Must have skills and experiences:
Experience in a startup or growth business environment
Proficient in Quickbooks Online software
Be customer focused. Default answer is “yes, of course”
Be highly organized and detail oriented
Be able to “figure things out” efficiently and effectively
Be committed to Bee Downtown’s mission and success and willing to go the extra mile as a result
Required education and certifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance
Master’s Degree welcomed, but not required.
CPA welcomed, but not required.
Desired Skills:
Proficient in email, spreadsheet creation, general understanding of Google Drive
Able to help with general partner programming creation tasks as well like honey bottling, program kit assembly, packaging and shipping on a small volume, etc.
Willingness to learn about bees and Bee Downtown’s beekeeping practices.
Enthusiastic and goal-oriented
Great verbal communication skills, able to speak honestly and easily with all teammates
